Our Story
Woven by hands, made for homes
Chadar King began as a small workshop in Jaipur with a simple belief โ that the textiles we live with every day deserve the same care and intention as the art we hang on our walls.
What Drives Us
Textiles should feel like they belong to you, not just occupy space in your home
Too much of what we bring into our homes today is disposable. Made to be replaced, not cherished. We started Chadar King because we believed there was still room for textiles that age with grace โ that soften with each wash, that hold their color through seasons, that carry the quiet signature of the hands that made them.
Our work sits at the intersection of tradition and everyday life. We are not interested in making museum pieces. We want our bedsheets on beds that get slept in, our blankets on couches that get curled up under, our cushions on sofas that get lived on. That is where textile belongs.
How It Started
From a single printing table to a name known across homes
It began with a borrowed printing table and a stubborn idea โ that the bedsheets people brought into their homes deserved more thought than what the market was offering. The first few years were slow. Mistakes were made. Dyes bled. Patterns did not align. But every mistake taught us something no factory manual ever could.
Slowly, word spread. A neighbor ordered one. Then her sister. Then a small shop in the city asked for ten. The workshop grew. More artisans joined. But the rule remained the same โ if a piece was not good enough to bring home ourselves, it was not good enough to leave the workshop.
Today, decades later, we still print by hand. We still check every run. We still pick up the phone when a customer calls with a question. Some things, we believe, should not change.
"A bedsheet is the first thing you touch in the morning and the last thing at night. We make them as if someone we love will be sleeping under them. Because eventually, someone will."
What We Stand For
Our Core Values
Four principles that shape every decision we make, from sourcing to shipping.
Craftsmanship Above All
Every single piece that leaves our workshop carries the imprint of hands that have spent decades perfecting their art. We refuse to rush what deserves patience.
Respect for Materials
We choose cotton that breathes, dyes that age gracefully, and finishes that feel gentle against skin. The fabric tells its own story over years of use.
People Behind the Loom
Our weavers, dyers, and printers are not vendors. They are partners. Their wellbeing is woven into every decision we make, from pricing to production schedules.
Design That Endures
Trends fade. Classic proportions, balanced patterns, and honest materials do not. We design pieces you will want to live with for years, not seasons.
Our Journey
How we got here
1985
A Workshop is Born
In a narrow lane of Jaipur, three artisans and a borrowed printing table set the foundation of what would become Chadar King.
1996
Finding Our Voice
After years of experimentation, we developed our signature blend of traditional motifs with contemporary color palettes that resonated with modern Indian homes.
2003
Expanding the Family
We formalized partnerships with weaving clusters across Rajasthan, ensuring fair wages and consistent work for over 100 artisan families.
2012
Crossing Borders
International clients discovered our work. What started as occasional export orders grew into a steady global presence.
2018
Sustainability Commitment
We shifted entirely to natural dyes for our block-printed lines and earned OEKO-TEX certification across our cotton products.
Today
Still Handcrafted
Despite growing demand, every Chadar King product still passes through human hands. Some things should not be automated.
The Process
Why we still print by hand
A machine can print a thousand bedsheets in the time it takes us to finish one. So why do we still hand-print? Because the difference is something you feel more than see.
Hand-printing lets the dye seep deeper into the fiber. It creates subtle variations that no two pieces will ever share โ a slight shift in pattern, a deeper saturation here, a softer edge there. These are not flaws. They are signatures.
Each piece passes through seven pairs of hands โ the designer who sketches the motif, the carver who cuts the block, the mixer who prepares the dye, the printer who lays the color, the washer who rinses, the dryer who stretches, the inspector who decides if it is good enough.
This is slow work. It is supposed to be.
